Psalm 45:1

Beautiful words stir my heart. I will recite a lovely poem to the king, for my tongue is like the pen of a skillful poet.

Asha Nicole Hillman is a poetess who resides in Central, New Jersey. Her Divine calling to become a writer was revealed to her at a young age. Ms. Hillman became deeply intrigued with writing short stories at the tender age of ten. During her teenage years she spent endless hours creating poetry.

Ms. Hillman is a graduate of Ramapo College and she majored in Literature. While attending college her intense love and appreciation for literature grew immensely. Ms. Hillman’s professors influenced and helped to enhance her creative writing skills. She also wrote for the school newspaper and recited her poetry whenever an opportunity presented itself.

Upon graduation from college Ms. Hillman became an inner city elementary school teacher, but continues to pursue a writing career. She has written a play in which her students were the actors and initiated a poetry club for the students at her school. Ms. Hillman has had the opportunity to present her poems at various open mic venues.

Ms. Hillman is also working on her first novel and with the Lord’s grace expects to complete it in the near future. She has been greatly influenced by the works of Maya Angelou, Langston Hughes, Terri Macmillan, Sister Soulijah, and hip hop artists and song lyricists, among others. She has also been inspired by David, the Psalmist and her late, beautiful and beloved mother, Barbara Hillman who also wrote poetry. But most of all Ms. Hillman gives praises and thanks to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. And His Word will always be a constant light and source of inspiration.
