The first time I read Mahogany Butterfly by Asha Hillman, I thought of the musician and lyricist India Arie.  I can almost hear India's playing her guitar and her beautiful voice taking this poem yet to another level. 

As I continued reading the poem, I could feel the energy of the words coming directly from her heart.  I envisioned a woman holding a new born; expressing her hearts desire for this child and the need for her to share her own life experiences. 

By the end of the poem, I could see every woman's desire to protect their child’s young innocent mind from being naïve to the cruel world. 

I could feel the energy that seemed to cry out, “Let’s love and nurture our children so that we can send them into the world prepared to face their own experiences with a positive mind, and a supportive foundation.

I asked where she bought such a beautiful basket and when she told me that her co- worker made it, I was completely shocked because it was very professional.
